Snooker legends Ronnie O’Sullivan and Mark Williams were both defeated at the European Masters on Thursday, as Aaron Hill won the rocket and Peter Devlin beat Welshman.
Both matches came to a head after Milton Keynes beat 18-year-old Hill O’Sullivan 5-4 and Devlin, 24, beat Williams by the same scoreline.
Given the huge difference in experience, most veterans would have expected to go through the set frames but Hill would have a 78-run break between them, while Devlin managed 102 to win the match.
O’Sullivan was playing his first match since winning the World Championship in August and he felt he had luck in the final frame.
‘Look, I had my chances and it could happen if you don’t take them,’ Rocket told That Daily constellation.
‘The decision didn’t go my way in decisive matters, there were a lot of flukes and he kept himself very well.’
Williams was a little more elegant in the defeat, tweeting: ‘Great break last frame, fair play.’
The Welsh Potting Machine added that it is a pleasure to see the trademark Epic hashtag as new young talent begins to emerge in the game.
