Rugby - EM: The national rugby team in the quarter finals against Spain

Cologne (SID) – Now the hardest part awaits: The German 7-a-side rugby team missed a perfect group stage in the deciding tournament of the EM series in Moscow. The defending champions will get rid of the Spaniards in the quarter-finals on Sunday morning, who won the first tournament in Lisbon with a happy final victory against Germany.

On Saturday, national coach Damien McGrath’s team won two out of three group games. Sovereign had a grim 31:7 morning against Lithuania with 7:7 against Italy. In a defensive fight, the Italians equalized with the final action. In the late afternoon, thanks to an increase in performance after the break, hosts Russia achieved 22:12.

After the group stage is now over, a points system is in place, followed by the knockout stage on Sunday, in which teams are awarded points based on their placements. The European champion is determined by adding the first to this tournament and the beginning of the month.

In 2019, a German Rugby Association (DRV) selection baptized as the “Wolfpack” (Wolf Pack) was crowned European champion after beating the Spaniards for the first time. Now after the final in Lisbon, the fight to save the title will be seen again.
