Cologne – Rugby talent Anton Seigner from Frankfurt made his professional debut in New Zealand. The 19-year-old came against Southland Stags in the 51st minute of Tasman Mako’s 47:10 home win. “Now I feel good, definitely. I’m surrounded by very good team-mates. We’re like a family,” Seigner said.
At the beginning of the season, Seigner signed a two-year contract with the defending champion of the Miter 10 Cup played in Nelson. The competition is the highest in New Zealand rugby. Nevertheless, he had to wait until day 7 of the match for his debut.
Seigner immediately caught his attention: his first action was a Sovereign Ball victory in the street – part of a planned move that ended with a decisive effort by Tongani international Fetuli Pie. For Tasman, action was the turning point of the game.
Seigner learned rugby in 1880 as a youth in SC Frankfurt. At the age of 15, his New Zealand coach Tim Manawatu sent him to Nelson College, where he received a scholarship and later also played for New Zealand on the national school team. His dream is to work for the country’s famous national team All Blacks.
