Écosse : Craig Brown croît en la nouvelle génération des joueurs écossais

The 80-year-old former Scottish coach has reacted to the players’ performance at Euro 2020. Craig Brown believes that this group can climb the ranks very quickly in the coming years.

Former Scotland manager (1993 – 2001) Craig Brown is the coach who led Scotland to the 1998 World Cup in France. He believes the national team’s participation in Euro 2020 will give Scottish football its biggest boost in many years. Craig Brown has observed the many initiatives taken by the Scottish Federation in recent years. He feels that this will improve the development of the game, but believes that the national team’s large-scale presence will be the strongest postwomen.

“Steve Clark promoted the sport indirectly at no additional cost. Many of these initiatives would not have been needed if the national team had played in tournaments. Steve opened the ball with our participation in these tournaments, I hope we Will qualify for the World Cup in Qatar”, suggested Craig Brown to Scottish site Press and Journal.

Despite Scotland’s failure to advance to the Round of 16, Brown was impressed with Clarke’s work to reach the group stage of Euro 2020: “People were saying it would be the first time. We would be able to qualify for the group stages of the tournament. .. that is true, but now the format is completely different to allow 24 teams to go to the final. In my opinion, it is all about the money, every game is being telecasted,” he said .

He also gave his opinion on some of the players he saw in the competition. “Ryan Jack was injured and young Nathan Patterson didn’t start the game. It was difficult for Steve Clarke to pick a top-notch team. Four-five emerged as first-classers in this competition. We had Andy Robertson, Kieran Tierney who are already well known in this area. We have others like Callum McGregor and Billy Gilmour emerging,” said Craig Brown.

He ended with fond memories of his time as Scotland’s coach. Craig Brown clarified that Scotland used to play in European tournaments in his time. “When I was an assistant to Andy Roxburgh in Sweden qualifying in 1992, we were in the bottom eight. In 1996, I was the coach and we were in England among 16 to qualify. This time we made the last 24, But we didn’t make it to the last 16. I still think the Scottish team under Steve has been very successful. They did a good job, ”concluded the former glory of Scottish football.
