Serge Tasted: Four from Glengoyne

Serge Tasted: Four from Glengoyne

The distillery is just a stone’s throw from Glasgow and therefore a popular destination for whiskey tourism Glengoyne, which is located exactly on the border between the highlands and the lowlands. It is one of the few distilleries where photography is not allowed inside the stillhouse itself – only snapshots of stills are allowed from outside.

Serge Valentine opened its tasting week today with four bottlings from the distillery, three of them from Distillery bottling, one from Cadenhead – and as a red wine cask bottling, it’s a tough time with Serge.

Overall, however, the grades are quite good Tasting,

Glengoyne 12 yo (43%, OB, +/-2021) 81
Glengoyne ‘The Legacy Chapter Two’ (48%, OB, First Fill Oloroso Sherry, Bourbon and Refill Casks, 2020) 84
Glengoyne 19 yo 1996/2016 (55%, Cadenhead, Wine Cask, Chateau ‘Lafitte’, 240 bottles) 70
Glengoyne 36 yo 1984/2021 ‘Russell Family Single Cask’ (50.2%, OB, Refill Sherry Butt, Cask #1549, 402 Bottles) 91

Here’s another look at the distillery from our pre-pandemic last visit. Glengoy was also one of the first distilleries to reopen after the lockdown in the UK.
