The way Gary Lineker and Steven Gerrard paid tribute to Wayne Rooney after the football world announced his decision to withdraw from football to focus on his coaching role.
The Manchester United and England giants have hung up their shoes to take over from Derby County, with the side threatened with charges on a permanent basis from the league after becoming interim boss earlier this season.

Rooney’s decision to spend time in his illustrious playing career was extremely difficult for former team players, rival players and fans. And tribute to the legend is coming from everywhere.
On Twitter, Lineker praised Rooney as one of the greatest English footballers of all time. The host of the day’s game said: “One of our greatest football players has retired. It’s not an easy time for either player, but Wayne Rooney has had a truly illustrious career on the pitch. Hopefully he will be successful off the pitch with the derby. County. Well done and best wishes. “

Lineker’s words were echoed by joint striker Marcus Rashford, who said it was an honor to share the pitch with Rooney.

Former England teammate Gerrard, who is currently Rangers manager in Scotland, said it was an ‘honor’ to play with Rooney and wished ‘good luck’ in the derby.
Several other footballers and fans also took a moment to congratulate the 35-year-old, recalling some of the favorite narratives of the joint narrative.
