Will Smith is still ashamed of this film

GQ Germany

The list of successful Hollywood movies starring Will Smith is long. And yet there is a film in which the actors themselves flinch in shame. In a video format for “GQ” he went undercover online answering questions from fans and revealed that he probably won’t be shooting the way he used to then. (Also read: The Real Will Smith)

“‘Wild Wild West’ is a thorn in my side,” laughs the actor. “Seeing me in Cowboy Chaps… I don’t like it.” For a comedic Wild West performance, the Hollywood star reunited with “Men in Black” director Barry Sonnenfeld. Smith plays an American Secret Service agent on the side of Kevin Kline who must protect the president and travel to the Wild West. The strip fell short with critics and fans alike. “Wild Wild West” achieved five golden raspberries in 1999 and was an outstanding flop at the box office. Will Smith: He thinks these movies are his best

In the video, Will Smith also explains which films he is particularly proud of. Accordingly, the two productions are linked: “As with the best film, it’s a one-on-one race between the first half of ‘Men in Black’ and ‘The Striving for Happiness.’ They are two nearly complete films for various reasons. The latter also earned the actor another Oscar nomination after “Ali” in 2002.

Oscar-Worthy Performance in “The Pursuit of Happiness”

At the Academy Awards in 2007, however, he lost in the “Best Actor” category to Forrest Whitaker in “The Last King of Scotland”. A moment that fans, but also Will Smith, apparently haven’t gotten over. A user on the net incredulously asked how could it be that the actor who “searched for happiness” didn’t get an Oscar. “Ding, ding, ding. Good question. Let’s send it to the authorities concerned.”
