The IIHF has postponed the competition, which will bring together 10 countries from a time slot from 7 April to 17 May from 6 to 16 May, in Halifax and True, Nova Scotia.

IIHF President Rene Fussell told The Associated Press on Monday that the organization is considering postponing the event to further ease health restrictions.

Hockey Canada would like to express its gratitude to the IIHF for its in-depth review of the 2021 IIHF World Women’s Championship in Halifax and True, Nova Scotia, and will decide on the tentative dates for the tournament’s staging of the tournament until 16 May. Hockey Canada president and COO Scott Smith said.

The decision of the IIHF has particularly relieved Hina Canada’s director of women’s teams, Gina Kingsbury.

“The cancellation of the 2020 IIHF World Women’s Championship has been very difficult for our athletes, coaches and staff. Although the 2021 event has been postponed, our team is grateful to the IIHF and Hockey Canada for their commitment to hosting the World Championship this season under complex conditions, ”she said.

Kingsbury recalled that World Women’s Hockey “is an important event” in preparing Canada for the Olympic Games tournament in Beijing next winter.
