European Championship – Summer plans Hollywood film: “I’ll call Robert De Niro later”

European Championship - Summer plans Hollywood film:

Bucharest (SID) – Yan Sommer had a good laugh. Asked if the dramatic 5:4 following a penalty shoot-out by Switzerland in the European Championship round of 16 against world champions France didn’t sound like a good Hollywood script, the Gladbach goalkeeper responded with a wide grin at ZDF : “Crazy, I’ll have Robert Dee call Nero later to see if he’d like a role in my biopic.”

It remains to be seen whether 77-year-old American De Niro has the physical ability to portray the heroic deeds of a Swiss man in a film biography. After a memorable evening in Bucharest, Sommer was overjoyed to cross superstar Kylian Mbappe’s last penalty shot.

“It’s history,” said the 32-year-old: “We got an opportunity a couple of times, we failed a couple of times. I’m incredibly proud of this team.” For the first time in 67 years, the Swiss made it to the quarter-finals of a major tournament.

“Nati” was already 3–1 behind against France, but national coach Vladimir Petkovi’s team saved themselves by scoring two late goals in extra time and later on penalties. “No one really believed in us anymore,” Sommer said, but the team “committed, no matter what happens, we’ll go to the end.”
