“I feel good”, assures Harry Maguire, fit and available to face Scotland

England centre-back Harry Maguire has said he is fit and available to face Scotland in the Euro 2020 Group D game on Friday after missing the opener due to an ankle ligament injury.

Maguire has been out for more than a month after being injured in Manchester United’s 3-1 Premier League win over Aston Villa on 9 May.

The Manchester United captain has missed the last five matches of the season, including the Europa League final, which he lost to Villarreal.

The 28-year-old was replaced by centre-back Tyrone Mings in England’s 1-0 win over Croatia last weekend.

“I feel good,” Maguire told British media on Wednesday. “I’m available again, trained and can’t wait to be there.”

“Obviously the injury was a club football setback. At the international level, I wanted to come in with a lot of matches under my belt and in great shape.”

“I did a few sessions and I think my form is there, so I am available for the game.”

Maguire said he may have to deal with some pain once he is fully recovered.

“I’m sure it will bother me for a few weeks and a few months,” he said. “I’ve never had an ankle injury before, but from conversations with players and physiotherapists, I’m sure it’s going to bother me.”

“But as long as it’s stable and the pain is bearable, I’m sure you’ll be fine.”
