Tommy Fury was tested for the first time in his career when he defeated Jordan Grant on Saturday night at Telford, but his father made headlines with his post-fight appeal to Jake Paul.
Tyson Fury’s brother, the novice Love Island star, went up to 6-0 (4 KOs) with the points win, giving him plenty of experience.
Fury is now 6-0 (4 KOs)
Starting the first lap, Grant came out of an unusual position.
Anyway, the underdog started landing two right hands on the favorite from the very first minute.
Fury responded and tried to regain control with a stinging uppercut, but Grant grabbed it again at the end of the session.
In the second, Fury sets his jaw and has more success.
He seemed to have adjusted to his opponent’s erratic movement, but found himself dead again at the start of the third round.
Fury responded by returning to his jab and fired back, the latter momentarily injuring Grant with a combination in the third.
The Scots refused to fade as they entered the final round.
He hit Fury halfway through with another solid right hand, but found himself overtaken by a majority.
Fury wins and lots of experience
When the final bell rang and the referee’s scorecard was read, Fury was declared the 40–36 winner.
He replied: “I learned more in these four rounds than in my other five encounters.
“I just try to better myself every time. I’m not Sugar Ray Leonard, I don’t pretend to be.
“It’s a marathon, I’m going to take my time and learn well.”
Tommy’s father John Fury then made another fiery appeal to YouTuber Jake Paul.
He shouted, “Jake Paul, we’ll have your next mate.
“If you think he’s no good, we’ll take Jake Paul forward.”
“Tyson’s Undercard, July 24, Jake Paul.”
