Lion Air in Indonesia restarts flights, cancels them again

(CNN) – A few weeks after the restart of domestic flights, Indonesian the Lion Air carrier canceled them again, citing problems with passengers who do not comply with Covid-19 regulations.

The Lion Air group, which also includes Batik Air and Wings Air, slowly began reintroducing short-haul flight routes on May 10, but the restored flights did not last long.

The company has announced that all routes have been suspended again since June 5 due to widespread problems with passengers who do not correctly comply with the coronavirus rules relating to social distance and the disclosure of health information.

In a press release, a Lion Air representative explains that “many potential passengers were unable to travel by air because they did not complete the required documents and conditions during the Corona Virus Disease 2019 pandemic alert period (Covid-19).”
The few international flights offered by the airline have also been canceled. In normal operations, Lion Air also flies to Saudi Arabia, China, Malaysia and Singapore.
The Jakarta-based airline had taken steps to ensure safety on board, such as blocking middle seats, deep cleaning plans and the replacement of HEPA filters on aircraft in which any passenger was suspected of illness.

In announcing the decision, Lion Air specifically indicated its concern for employee health, especially cabin crew at risk of contracting coronavirus from travelers.

“Lion Air Group supports the government in relation to Covid-19’s spread prevention efforts, through active participation in the implementation of the health protocols that have been established by the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Health and the Task Force,” he said. the company wrote in a note released on June 3.

So far, it is not known when these flights will be rescheduled. Lion Air offers refunds to passengers who have already booked their tickets, but for the time being, it does not allow anyone to make new reservations.
