So Joao da Venda (AP) — Eleven days before their opening game at the European Football Championship, the Netherlands have yet to present themselves in EM form.
With his goal set shortly before the end, double goalscorer Memphis Depay saved Bondscoch Frank de Boer’s Elftal in So Joo da Venda, Portugal, 2:2 (1:1) against Scotland.
Dutch final offensive
In a duel between the two European Championship participants, Depay (17th minute) compensated for the Scots’ early lead by Jack Hendry (11th minute). A goal from Kevin Nisbet (64th) struck Oranje again after the break – but Depay corrected again in the 89th minute to reward the Dutch’s stormy final attack.
The Scottish selection had to move to Portugal after a coronavirus case in the team without seven players. In addition to John Fleck who tested positive, who is in isolation at the EM quarter of Scotland in Alicante, Spain, David Marshall, Stephen O’Donnell, Nathan Patterson, Grant Hanley, John McGinn and Che Adams remained at the training camp.
The Dutch will play their first European Championship preliminary round on 13 June against Ukraine in Amsterdam. In Group C, Oranje meets Austria and North Macedonia.
