Russia – Missing American found dead

Russian investigators searching for the missing American since Tuesday announced on Saturday that they had found his body, and arrested a man suspected of killing him. Catherine Serau, 34, disappeared on Tuesday evening after leaving her apartment in Nizhny Novgorod, 400 km east of Moscow, and getting into an unidentified car.

“With a man in the car I don’t know. I hope I’m not kidnapped,” said the last text message sent to her mother. The mother, Bekki Cerro, explained that it’s possible that her daughter , who was in a rush to make ends meet, had a history of bills at a clinic, didn’t have the patience to wait for his Uber, and was hitchhiker.

“Today, after a massive search operation, we found the young woman’s body,” the investigative committee investigating significant crimes in Russia said in a statement on Saturday.

The statement said that a resident of Nizhny Novgorod, who was arrested in his forties, had already been convicted by the police of a number of serious crimes.

Rescue teams and several volunteers took part in a search in a wooded area near the city, where the last signal of the girl’s phone was received. She was enrolled in a master’s degree in law at the city’s university, and then planned to return to the United States to work as a lawyer specializing in immigration matters.
